Goodness me where did that year go, it has been almost a year since my last blog, but with Janet 009 lives (otherwise known as the cat) waking me up at 04.30 because she wanted to go out and not being able to get back to sleep I thought I would get up and use my time constructively........... yesterday was the 3rd anniversary of Miss Maggie making her way over rainbow bridge, the day was not a sad one because memories of Miss Maggie and Mr Duskey make me smile, their antics as an elderly couple were funny and their characters which had formed over many years can only be described as strong, independent and wilful.
To celebrate Miss Maggie's life her Supper Box opened and gifts were sent to 4 wonderful rescues to support the older dogs in their care.
These included a donation towards dental care, supplements for joints and support towards general care costs of a newly acquired rescued greyhound.
Funds permitting I will make this an annual event as it seems the right thing to do, this will be in memory of both Miss Maggie and Mr Duskey.
You may find this odd but I have always felt that Miss Maggie guides me and her anniversary came just at the right time things had been pretty quiet and money is no good just sitting in the fund gathering dust. I thought that the best thing to do was to be proactive and search for rescues that have older sighthounds in their care. A big job and as yet I have hardly scratched the service, but for everyone I found I sent a message telling them about the fund and asking if they needed anything for the older sighthounds in their care. The responses I received back were polite and grateful, but no one actually needed anything. That's good I hear you say, that means they are all well provided for and maybe your right, but honestly I did feel a little despondent and began to question the need for Miss Maggie's fund.
Well what Mrs M never does ( with a hefty kick from close friends ~ they dont even know they are doing it ) is give up, the anniversary gifts have had an unexpected positive impact for more then just the wonderful oldies in receipt of them ~ they are in fact the gifts that keep on giving.
Over a period of less then 24 hours Miss Maggie's Facebook page has smashed through the 100 barrier after being static at 83 for some months. Donations have been made enabling her work to continue, and her page and story has been shared which hopefully will raise more awareness. The buzz and activity created by this also motivated me to design and order some postcards (which I did last night) to send out to rescues alerting/reminding them of the fund and to write this Blog.
(Please note that donations are not used for this purpose ~ All donated money goes directly to the oldies in rescue )
To those of you who are new to the Miss Maggie fund welcome, you are the eyes and ears for the fund ~ please get in touch if you know of any any rescues that could do with a little support for one or more of their oldies. To anyone wanting to donate please do and to those kind, loyal and generous people who have supported Miss Maggie's fund from the offset remember you made these gifts happen. Thank you x
To start the blog this photo is of Mr Duskey and Miss Maggie waiting for the Supper Box to open ~ it really was their favourite time of the day.
